President Higgins received Mr Peter Pellegrini, Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and a parliamentary delegation, to Áras an Uachtaráin on a courtesy call

Mr Pellegrini served as the prime minister of Slovakia from 2018 to 2020 and Minister of Health from December 2019 to March 2020.

In October 2023 Mr Pellegrini was re-elected as Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic.
