President Michael D Higgins delivered the opening address at Amnesty International’s 32nd international council meeting in Dublin.
In his speech, the President paid tribute to the work of human rights organisations and spoke about the EU's response to the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean, saying its failure undermined “both the ideal of the EU, and any prospect of that union being an exemplar for international law and its instruments”.
