On Sunday 11 June, President Michael D. Higgins and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein took a stand for tolerance, peace and respect for human rights.
The President and the UN High Commissioner attended the Ireland v. Austria World Cup qualification match, and during the match highlighted the importance of respecting and fulfilling everyone's human rights.
The initiative took place in the context of the FAI's partnership with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and its "Stand Up for Someone's Rights Today" campaign, and fans were asked to stand up for respect, compassion and the protection of people's rights.
