President Higgins visited Inchicore, to unveil an art work by Joey Burns at Inchicore National School.
Inchicore National School was first established in 1853 as a Model School. Following a refurbishment project completed in 2014, the school decided to commission a wood sculpture from Joey Burns under the “Percent for Arts” scheme.
The Per Cent for Art scheme is a government initiative, first introduced in 1978, whereby 1% of the cost of any publicly funded building project can be allocated to the commissioning of a work of art.
Artist Joey Burns worked with the pupils of the school to incorporate their ideas into the sculptures.
