President Michael D Higgins visited the inaugural Ireland Skills Live event in the RDS in Dublin.
The event hosts the National Skills Finals – a competition in over 20 varied skills, with the winners in each event going on to represent Ireland at the World Skills Competition in Russia.
President Higgins has over the years welcomed many Irish participants in the World Skills Competitions - a competition the President has called "the Olympics of craftsmanship and apprenticeship" - to Áras an Uachtaráin. The President has on those occasions spoken about the importance of placing equal value in our education system on academic and vocational subjects.
