State Visit to Ireland by the President of the Republic of Mozambique
Mr Armando Emilio Guebuza 3rd – 6th June, 2014
President Michael D. Higgins is pleased to announce that the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Mr Armando Emilio Guebuza, has accepted an invitation to visit Ireland from the third to the sixth of June 2014.
Former President McAleese made a State Visit to Mozambique in June 2006. On the afternoon of Tuesday 3rd June, the State Visit will commence with a formal welcome ceremony at Áras an Uachtaráin when President Guebuza will be greeted by President and Sabina Higgins. Following the formal welcome ceremony, a meeting between both Heads of State will take place.
On the evening of Wednesday 4th June, the President and Mrs Higgins will host a State Dinner at Áras an Uachtaráin in honour of President Guebuza. The overall programme for the State visit of the President of the Republic of Mozambique builds on the close ties between Ireland and Mozambique. The visit will enhance cooperation between Ireland and Mozambique across a range of areas including agriculture, health, education, development and trade.
This is the first incoming State visit during President Higgins tenure. Since taking office in November 2011, President Higgins has made two outgoing State visits – to Croatia in June 2013 and to the UK earlier this year.
The full programme for the State visit of President Armando Emilio Guebuza will be issued later in the week.
