Statement on the death of HE Mr Trần Đại Quang, President of Vietnam

I was saddened to learn of the death on 21 September 2018 of His Excellency Mr Trần Đại Quang (RIP), President of Vietnam.
Sabina and I have very fond memories of our State Visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in November 2016, and of the warm hospitality and friendship shown to us by President Quang and First Lady, Madam Nguyen Thi Hien.
I wish to convey the sincere condolences of the people of Ireland to the Government and people of Vietnam and to extend my sympathy to his wife and family, and to the Vietnamese people, at this sad time.
