Statement from President Michael D. Higgins - Brussels Attacks

In a statement from Áras an Uachtaráin President Michael D. Higgins has today expressed his sympathies to the families of the victims of the attacks in Brussels:
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the attacks and the tragic loss of lives in Brussels today.
These attacks strike at the fundamental right of all to live in peace. These actions must not undermine the will of all Europeans to live and work together.
I wish to express my sincerest condolences to the families of all those bereaved and affected by today’s tragedies. All of our thoughts are with the people of Brussels at this time of tragedy.
I have conveyed to King Philippe today the sympathy of the Irish people at this most difficult time.”

Dans un communiqué émanant d’Áras an Uachtaráin, le Président de la République d’Irlande a exprimé sa profonde sympathie aux proches des victimes des attaques de Bruxelles:
"C’est avec une profonde tristesse que j’ai pris connaissance de la tragique perte de vies humaines causée par les attaques de ce jour à Bruxelles.
Ces attaques mettent en cause notre droit le plus fondamental à vivre en paix. Ces actes ne doivent pas éroder la volonté de tous les Européens de continuer à vivre et travailler ensemble.
Je tiens à exprimer mes condoléances les plus sincères aux familles de tous ceux qui sont endeuillés ou blessés par ces événements tragiques. Nos pensées et notre solidarité vont, en cette épreuve, aux habitants de Bruxelles.
J’ai fait part ce matin au Roi Philippe de la sympathie du peuple irlandais en ces temps douloureux."

In een verklaring van Áras an Uachtaráin sprak vandaag de Ierse President Michael D. Higgins zijn sympathie uit met de families van de slachtoffers van de aanslagen in Brussel.
“Het bedroeft mij zeer het nieuws van de geweldadige aanslagen in Brussel te vernemen.
Deze aanslagen treffen een ieder’s fundamentale recht op een vreedzaam leven. Deze acties mogen niet de wil van alle Europeanen om samen te leven en te werken ondermijnen.
Ik wil mijn diepste condoleances delen met de families van de slachtoffers van de gebeurtenissen van vandaag. Op dit tragische moment leven wij mee met alle Brusselaren.
Ik heb Koning Filip in deze moeilijke tijden het medeleven van het Ierse volk overgebracht.”
