Statement from Áras an Uachtaráin, London Visit February 2012

President Michael D. Higgins will visit London from 21st to 23rd of February, his first official visit abroad since his inauguration.

On the 21st February, the President will depart from Dublin airport and his programme on arrival in London that day will include a visit to the London Irish Centre in Camden followed by a visit to and an address at the London School of Economics, entitled, ‘Of Public Intellectuals, Universities, and a Democratic Crisis.’

On Wednesday 22nd, the President will visit the Olympic Park, which includes a visit to the Aquatics Centre and the Stadium, where he will meet Lord Coe, President of the London Olympic Games Organising Committee. In the afternoon he will have an opportunity to meet members of the Irish Business, Cultural and wider community at a reception at the Irish Embassy. Later in the evening he will attend a joint production performance of Juno and the Paycock involving the Abbey Theatre and the National Theatre of Great Britain at the Lyttelton Theatre.

He will depart for Dublin on the morning of 23rd February.

The President will be accompanied by Sabina Higgins.
