Statement by President Michael D. Higgins on the floods in Japan

President Michael D. Higgins has asked the Ambassador of Japan to convey his sympathies to those affected by the floods and landslides in Japan, and in particular to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
"I wish, as President of Ireland, to offer the sympathy and the solidarity of the Irish people to the people of Japan as they come to terms with the loss of life and the hardship caused by the torrential rains and subsequent landslides."
