Statement by President Michael D. Higgins on the death of Adrian Ismay

Today President Higgins said:
"Today I heard the distressing news of the death of Belfast prison officer Adrian Ismay, who was the victim of a bomb attack on his vehicle earlier this month.
His family will feel his loss most acutely, but his death is also a travesty to all of us who are committed to the cause of peace in Ireland.
On behalf of the people of Ireland, I extend my heartfelt sympathy to Officer Ismay’s family and colleagues."
