Statement by President Higgins on the death of John Mulcahy

Date: Mon 10th Sep, 2018 | 10:07

"Sabina and I have heard of the death of John Mulcahy with great sadness.

An iconic figure in Irish publishing as editor of Hibernia, founder of Phoenix Magazine and The Irish Arts Review, his contribution to Irish critical and aesthetic thought was innovative and immense.

Writing to John earlier this week, I recalled the role his commissioning book reviews of important or eclectic titles played in supplementing the income of young academics. I thanked him for his support for mind-work in so many different ways.

To his wife Nuala and his children Nick, Michael, Stephen, Brigid, Jack, Hugh and Aengus we offer our sympathies at their loss."
