Statement by President Higgins following vote at UN Security Council

Date: Thu 5th Jun, 2025 | 09:47

“Following yesterday's vote at the UN Security Council, where 14 of the 15 members voted in favour of an immediate, conditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, it is important that the international community continues to work, including under the Tenth Emergency Session of the General Assembly as part of the Uniting for Peace initiative and through other means, to bring an end to the violence, release all remaining hostages and allow sufficient aid into Gaza.

Now is the time for an immediate call for action and assistance from the international community in its implementation to ensure that there is not further loss of life as people exercise the impossible choice between risking their lives to access aid or starving."
