President Michael D. Higgins To Address The Parliamentary Assembly Of The Council Of Europe

President Michael D. Higgins departs Dublin this afternoon (26th January, 2015) for Strasbourg where he will deliver an address tomorrow morning to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.  He will deliver an address entitled ‘The Future of Parliaments - Addressing the Challenges’.

The President of the Council of Europe, Mme Anne Brasseur, extended an invitation to the President to address the Parliamentary Assembly on her visit to Dublin last June.

At the Council of Europe President Higgins will also hold bilateral meetings with Mme Brasseur, Ms Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe and Mr Nils Muižnieks, the Council’s Commissioner for Human Rights.

The President will also visit the European Court of Human Rights where he will have a bilateral meeting with Mr Dean Spielmann, the President of the European Court of Human Rights.

Tomorrow evening the President, accompanied by his wife Sabina, will attend an Irish Community Reception in Strasbourg hosted by Ambassador Peter Gunning and Mrs. Mary Gunning.
