President Higgins welcomes start of the League of Ireland season

“As President of Ireland I wish to send my warmest congratulations and good wishes to Cork City and Dundalk FC, meeting in this year’s President’s Cup.
The people of Ireland take great pride in our sports, and it is appropriate to take the time to pay tribute to our sports men and women, who give so generously of their skill, time and dedication.
I join my voice with all those who love and support Irish sport in welcoming the achievements of Cork City and Dundalk and expressing my hopes for an exciting President’s Cup match and League of Ireland season.The teams in the League of Ireland have made, and continue to make, an important and positive impact not only in the world of Irish sport but also on the lives of many young players and supporters, who benefit from witnessing and experiencing the commitment, skill and dedication on display in the League of Ireland.
I thank the players, managers and supporters of all the teams in the League for their great spirit of active participation, and for all they contribute to our communities and our society, and I wish all the teams every success.
