President Higgins welcomed HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco to Áras an Uachtaráin.
The visit took place 60 years after the visit by the Prince’s parents, Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly, in 1961. Their visit was the first official visit to Ireland by any Head of State since the foundation of the State.
The Prince is a regular visitor to Ireland, travelling with his mother in 1961, 1976 and 1979. He has also visited Ireland as Head of State on a number of occasions, including informal visits in 2017 and 2019 and a State Visit in 2011.
