President Higgins attended an Irish community reception at the Irish Society’s premises in Mineola.
Mineola, which derives from the Native American language Algonquin, means ‘Pleasant Village’ or ‘Honeyed Place’ is situated in North Hempstead, in Nassau County, Long Island, about 30 miles east of Manhattan. The host for the event will be the Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens.
The Society was founded in 1931 and this year celebrated its 88th anniversary.
