President Higgins had a farewell telephone call with H.E. Dr George Vella, President of Malta.
Dr Vella’s term as the tenth President of the Republic of Malta is due to conclude on 4 April.
In March 2023 President Higgins welcomed President Vella and his wife Mrs Miriam Vella on a State Visit to Ireland.
The 2023 State Visit by President Vella reciprocated the State Visit of President Higgins to Malta in May 2022, and served to strengthen the historical, cultural, educational and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
