The President gave the opening address at a symposium celebrating the life and legacy of poet and writer John O'Donohue.
In his address to the international symposium, the President spoke of O'Donohue's legacy, that will pass on to future generations.
After John O'Donohue's death in 2008, President Higgins had described his friend as an "inspirational figure", a person with "immense courage, who gave witness to truth", and a man whose "very presence was enormously valuable, a blessing in itself, even before he started to speak".
