President Higgins invited a number of representatives from Ireland’s community radio stations to Áras an Uachtaráin, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Community Radio Forum of Ireland (CRAOL).
When he was Minister for the Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, in 1995, President Higgins oversaw the granting of a broadcast licence by the IRTC (now the BAI) to eleven community radio stations.
In his speech, the President paid tribute to CRAOL and its members, and highlighted the importance of community radio to both local communities and our democracy as a whole.
