President Higgins hosted a reception at Áras an Uachtaráin to mark World Philosophy Day and launch the the Irish Young Philosopher Awards.
Last year, the President marked World Philosophy Day by calling for greater reflection and debate about the type of skills we need as citizens, in a rapidly changing society. Since then, the President has often spoken about the need to bring ethical considerations to the fore in public discussions about Irish society, economics and politics.
At this year's event, the President elaborated on these themes.
