The 7th event in the 2017 series of Garden Parties was the 'Community Day' party.
Over 400 people were invited to meet with the President and Sabina Higgins for the 'Community Day' event, celebrating voluntary groups and active citizens, from across the country, who are working to build a better, more inclusive Ireland.
The Garden Parties have been a feature in the calendar at Áras an Uachtaráin since the days of Ireland’s first President, Douglas Hyde. Continuing the tradition, President and Sabina Higgins each year host a series of Garden Parties welcoming citizens to the residence, to celebrate the work of people and civic organisations from all over the island of Ireland.
The Garden Parties provide an opportunity for the President of Ireland to thank those working to support vulnerable people and communities, as well as groups to pay tribute to groups of active citizens and organisations that have provided service to society and local communities.
This year, the President and Sabina highlighted the themes of culture, island communities, social and home care, adoption, families, crafts and creative arts, and community groups. In total, the President and Sabina welcomed over 4,000 people from all over the island of Ireland to the 2017 Garden Parties.
