President Connolly welcomed the Men and Women’s Team Captains and FAI President Paul Cooke and League of Ireland Director Mark Scanlon ahead of the upcoming men’s and women’s President of Ireland’s Cup matches for 2026.
On Saturday, 31 January the 2025 men’s League of Ireland and Men’s FAI Cup double winners Shamrock Rovers will play the League of Ireland runners up Derry City in Tallaght Stadium. Shamrock Rovers were represented at Áras an Uachtaráin by captain Roberto Lopes. Derry City were represented by Dipo Akinyemi.
On Sunday, 8 March the 2025 women’s Premier Division and Women’s FAI Cup double winners Athlone Town will play League of Ireland runners up Shelbourne at Athlone Town Stadium.
Athlone were represented at Áras an Uachtaráin by Madie Gibson. Shelbourne were represented by former Ireland international Rachel Graham.
