On the first day of their State Visit to the United Kingdom, President and Sabina Higgins were met by HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall at the Irish Embassy in London, before departing together for Windsor.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh formally greeted the President and Sabina at the Royal Dais, Datchet Road, in Windsor after which they travelled together by horse-drawn carriage for a ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle.
In the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle, the President, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, inspected the Guard of Honour. As part of the formal welcome, the Guard of Honour gave the Royal Salute, and the band played the Irish and British National Anthems.
