The President is our Head of State.
As Head of State, the President represents the country both at home and abroad
The President's Powers are set out in the constitution
- Appointing the Taoiseach and Members of the Government (after an election)
- Dissolving (ending) the Dáil
- Appointing Judges
- Appointing Officers of the Defence Forces (Army, Navy, Air Corps)
- Signing of Bills (which then become law)
- Referring these Bills to the Supreme Court to make sure they are in agreement with the Constitution
