Statement by President Michael D. Higgins – Jim McCann

Date: Thu 5th Mar, 2015 | 10:53

On hearing of the death of Jim McCann President Michael D. Higgins said in a statement this evening:

“I am very saddened to hear of the death of the renowned Irish folk singer, Jim McCann.
Throughout the years Jim McCann has captivated audiences, both at home and abroad, with his superb and instantly recognisable singing voice.  He began his musical career with The Ludlow Trio in the 1960s, went on to become a solo artist and of course, sang with The Dubliners.  His very unique and personal rendition of the song ‘Grace’ has meant that he will always have a special place in the collective Irish memory.
Sabina and I wish to express our deepest sympathies to his wife, Phyl, his friend, John Sheahan and to all of his extended family and friends.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
