Welcome from President Higgins

Welcome from President Higgins

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you, wherever you may be, to the official website of the President of Ireland.

It is my hope that this website reflects the themes and ideas of my Presidency as set out in my inaugural address (link) in November 2011.

Within these pages you will find my weekly engagements diary (link) detailing my appointments at Áras an Uachtaráin, around the island of Ireland and overseas.  You will also find copies of the speeches and addresses (link) that I have delivered as well as photos and videos from my engagements.

Sections of the website are dedicated to the special initiatives (link) of my Presidency including my consultation with young people, Being Young and Irish (link), the celebration of Irish culture, Glaoch (link), and The President of Ireland’s Ethics Initiative (link).

Acknowledging the immense contribution of my predecessors you will find here the history (link to interactive timeline) of this Office since the inauguration of Douglas Hyde (link to Hyde in Past Presidents) in 1938.

In addition you will find information about the team (link to About section) working at the Office of the President and an online tour (link to interactive tour) of Áras an Uachtaráin, built in 1751.

Irish people, at home and abroad, and friends of Ireland I hope this website will bring you closer to the Presidency and that you will take the opportunity to visit it again and again.

With every good wish for the future.

President Michael D. Higgins.
