Statement on the death of Paddy Sheehan

Date: Mon 10th Aug, 2020 | 23:25

“News of the death of former TD Paddy Sheehan will be received with great sadness, not only by the constituents he served so well in West Cork, but by those who served with him in Dáil Éireann, as I did.

As a parliamentarian he was quite unique, completely resistant to any of the anodyne suggestions of any press office. He spoke with humour, wit, sincerity and indeed on occasion with some genius on the problems and prospects of West Cork.

His great ally in all of this, beyond his party activists, was his wife Frances, who passed away just a week before his own passing.

Those who knew them both will remember them as warm, generous people, who loved company and were welcome in any company.

To his family I send my deepest sympathies.”
