Statement on the death of John Lynch
Date: Fri 10th Apr, 2020 | 14:18
“I was saddened to hear the news of the death of John Lynch, former chairman of CIÉ and former Director General of FÁS.
John Lynch’s contribution to public services in Ireland for over thirty years, particularly during periods of great change in the energy and transport sectors, was an enormous one.
During the 1990s, his insights and leadership at FÁS, the State training and further education agency, were a hugely important contribution at a time when the level of unemployment posed the most significant economic challenge to this country.
The range of his public service is unmatched in contemporary times. John’s legacy will include the transformative role he played as he guided Bord Gáis Éireann, FÁS, CIÉ and its three operating companies through critical stages of their development, and doing so during times of great pressure on public finances.
Sabina and I send our deepest condolences to his partner Kathy, his extended family and his very wide circle of friends.”
