"On this our national day, I want to pay tribute to the Irish Women's rugby team..
The nation watched as they progressed on their inspiring journey through the Six Nations championships, and I commend the commitment and courage of all involved, that brought them to this point: players, coaches, families and supporters.
While disappointed with this evening's result, I have no doubt that Irish women's rugby will continue to reflect the best values of rugby, and that this team will continue to inspire."
