“I have learned with sadness of the death of Paddy Ashdown, former MP and leader of the Liberal Democrats in the United Kingdom.
Paddy Ashdown brought his unique energy and candour to all his work and public campaigns, and as the Liberal Democrats’ first elected leader established his party as a significant force in British politics.
After his retirement from active politics, he gained widespread acclaim for his role a
s High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, charged with overseeing the peace agreements in former Yugoslavia.
