Statement by President Higgins on the death of Eamon Murray
Date: Thu 26th Jun, 2025 | 15:33
“May I join with all those who have expressed their sadness on learning of the death of Eamon Murray.
Eamon was one of Ireland’s greatest harmonica players, bringing an expert proficiency and wonderful touch not just to his own work as a solo artist and in bands such as Blues House, but also in the extra sound he brought to the many acts with whom he collaborated over the decades.
As well as his outstanding work as a musician, which he expressed through the saxophone and as a vocalist as well as through his mastery of the harmonica, Eamon also made a great contribution, along with his late wife Rynagh O’Grady, in the building of the seven A-framed timber houses amongst which they lived in Cois Abhainn in Greenane near Rathdrum.
He will be missed.
May I express my deepest condolences to Eamon’s son Jamie, his daughter-in-law Sinéad, his grandchildren Toby and Jake, and to all of his family, friends and many musical companions.”
