President Michael D. Higgins congratulates Connacht rugby team

President Michael D. Higgins has today sent his congratulations to the Connacht Rugby team on winning their first Pro12 title at Murrayfield:
“I want to congratulate everyone involved with Connacht Rugby for their outstanding success in winning the Guinness Pro12 Final in Edinburgh today.
This is a famous win for Connacht Rugby, which caps a fantastic year for the Western Province. Their success has been an inspiration and Connacht’s win today will hopefully encourage young men and women all around the island of Ireland to participate in sport.
The team has had wonderful supporters who have followed their progress right thought the season. Pat Lam and all those working in Connacht rugby have made a fantastic connection with the communities in the West of Ireland, which makes Connacht’s rugby success all the more important.
At times like these, we celebrate not just the triumph and dedication of the players and the coaching staff, but also the years of dedication from all those who supported and volunteered to make Connacht Rugby what it is today.
