President Higgins receives United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

President Higgins met with United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at Áras an Uachtaráin on 6 December, 2012.

They discussed a number of issues including their shared interest in upholding and defending global human rights, the peace process in Northern Ireland and its value as a model for resolution in regional conflicts, the Irish community in the United States and food security, nutrition and development issues in Africa.

The President availed of the opportunity to thank Secretary Clinton for all her support to Ireland over the years – as First Lady, US Senator and latterly as Secretary of State.
