President Higgins congratulates Rory McIlroy on winning the Irish Open

President Michael D. Higgins this evening congratulated Rory McIlroy on winning the Irish Open. Speaking from Istanbul, where he is leading Ireland’s delegation at the World. Humanitarian Summit, President Higgins said:
“I was delighted to hear of Rory McIlroy’s victory, which is so richly deserved, especially given his strong personal support for this event and his support for Irish sport more generally. As a global star who gives so much back to Ireland, he is a great role model for our young people.”
