President and Sabina Higgins host event to mark UN Day of Yoga

Date: Mon 20th Jun, 2016 | 10:14

20 June 2016

On 21 June, President Michael D. Higgins and Sabina Higgins are once again opening up Áras an Uachtaráin to members of the public, for the 6th event in a series of summer Garden Parties dedicated each year to different themes.

This summer, President and Sabina Higgins will welcome over 4,000 visitors from all over the island of Ireland to these Garden Parties held at Áras an Uachtaráin in the Phoenix Park, to celebrate the work of organisations active on themes including culture, citizenship, community action and sustainable development.

The President and Sabina Higgins decided to focus the 21 June Garden Party on the theme of yoga and well-being, in celebration of an ancient tradition that embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, as recognised by the United Nations.

The event highlights the day designated by the United Nations as International Day of Yoga and will be attended in the Áras by many members of the Yoga community across Ireland, and others interested in promoting yoga as a means of health and life fulfilment.
