The President of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, paid a 2-day visit to Ireland, for meetings with President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, as well as with Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl and Seanad Cathaoirleach Denis O`Donovan.
The programme at Áras an Uachtaráin included a meeting with President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, a guard of honour, a 21 gun salute and a fly past by the Irish Air Corps. In keeping with tradition, President Anastasiades also planted a tree in the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin, as a symbol of the friendship that binds the two countries.
President Anastasiades wrote the following in the Book of Visitors:
I express my thanks to the President of Ireland for the warm welcome at the Presidential Palace. I hope that this official visit will strengthen further the already excellent relations between Cyprus and Ireland for the benefit of our people, as well as for the benefit of the European Union in which we both belong.
