Sabina Higgins attended the launch of A Little Book of Brigid in Narraghmore, Co Kildare, where Blueway Art Studio presented her with the 1st edition of the book, based on nominations received from the public.
Before the official presentations, Sabina and Angela Maginnis received a tour of Blueway Art Studio where the processes used to make the book were exhibited. The book was entirely handmade through letterpress, screenprinting and Coptic stitch bindings. The edition of 100 books is being gifted to 100 women or institutions throughout 2024 whilst commemorating 1500 years since the death of St Brigid.
The bright-coloured book was created with plastic-free sustainable gouache paints, plastic-free starch glue and rubber-based inks. A little Brat Bride is included in each book: made from linen hand hand-dyed with dyes made from foraged heather from Brigid's ancestral lands.
After the studio visit, Sabina met the volunteers of the Old Hardware, a social enterprise and heart of the village.
The launch itself took place in Mel's Bistro. After the presentations, several writers recited their poems from the book and in response to Sr. Ann Scully's empowering speech, Sabina recited a WW1 poem by Clifford.
