President Higgins unveiled a statue by renowned Irish sculptor John Behan.
The sculpture, “Migrant Boat, Off Sicily, 2018”, will be placed at the offices of the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the UN.
The piece is part of a series of art works by John Behan, whose sculptures reference themes related to the Táin, the Great Irish Famine, and migration.
Another bronze sculpture by John Behan stands proudly in the gardens of the United Nations headquarters in New York. The sculpture, entitled “Arrival”, honours both the generations of people who emigrated in search of a new life, and the nations that welcomed them and offered them new opportunities.
