President Higgins today welcomed Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, President of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, along with other members of the UAE's national parliament, to Áras an Uachtaráin.
Appointed in November 2015, Ms. Al Qubaisin, who represents Abu Dhabi in the Federal National Council, is the first female leader of a national parliament in the Gulf region.
The President said:
"It has been a privilege and a pleasure to welcome the Speaker of the Federal National Council, Dr. Al Qubaisi, to Áras an Uachtaráin.
We had a warm and lengthy meeting and a valuable exchange of views on current global, regional and bilateral issues. We discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between our two countries, in areas such as agriculture, tourism, transport, environment, humanitarian issues and human rights.”
