President Higgins laid a wreath marking the 60th anniversary of the death of Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty.
The Embassy of Ireland to the Holy See erected a plaque in memory of the late Monsignor in the Campo Santo, as it is here that he lived during the Nazi occupation of Rome in World War II and from where he directed his lifesaving operation which saved up to 4,000 Allied Prisoners of War and Jews.
