As part of the "Ireland 2016" centenary commemorations programme, a series of workshops took place with children and young people, between the ages of 8 and 18, in Ireland and Northern Ireland, to find out what things they liked about Ireland and what things they would like to change in the Ireland of 2116.
Over 300 children and young people who participated in those workshops are invited to attend a special ceremony at Áras an Uachtaráin, hosted by President Michael D. Higgins, to remember the children who died in 1916, and to share their vision for Ireland in 2116.
The grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin will be transformed for the occasion where children will be able to enjoy playing popular games from 1916. The ceremony will include a lantern ceremony and naming of the children who lost their lives during the Rising, a presentation by some of the children on their vision for the future, the burying of a time capsule and a special tree-planting ceremony.
