On the final day of his visit to El Salvador, President Michael D Higgins visited the tomb of Archbishop Óscar Romero, murdered by government forces in 1980.

President Higgins described his visit as “very moving,” saying that his assassination set off the great interest in Ireland in the small war-torn country.

President Higgins also visited an exhibition featuring projects helped by Irish Aid.
