President Michael D. Higgins hosted a reception for members of the InterAction Council.
The Council was established to mobilise the experience, energy and international contacts of a group of former President and Prime Ministers, to develop recommendations and practical solutions for the political, economic and social problems confronting humanity.
In his address to his guests, President Michael D. Higgins reflected on the shifting complexity of global policy making, and highlight the urgency of resolving issues such as climate change, global poverty, and the disconnect between market competition, social cohesion, ecology and new forms of work. The President called for a new ethic for our times – an ethic which would heal the separation between man and nature, address the global reach of our actions, and protect the right of future generations to dwell in harmony on our shared planet.
