As Guest of Honour, President Michael D. Higgins has been invited to deliver a speech at Féile Chnoc na Gaoithe, a weekend of traditional music, song and dance.
The President’s speech, reflecting on the historic significance of the1916 Easter Rising and its importance for Irish culture and society, is part of a series he has undertaken on the cultural, social and political context of the Easter Rising, emphasising that the leaders of the Rising were inspired not just by a set of political ideals, but also by a deep awareness of Ireland’s global links, as well as its deep, rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
