Statement from President Michael D. Higgins Regarding Voluntary Salary Reduction

President Michael D. Higgins advised the Government of his intention to voluntarily waive 23.5% of his salary amounting to €76,493 in a full year. This will bring his salary in line with the reduced figure of €249,014 now being legislated for in the Oireachtas and which will apply to the next holder of the office.
During his term in office, President Higgins will not draw down any pension entitlements arising from his previous service as a member of the Dáil or Seanad.
