President Michael D. Higgins has arrived in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia.
The President's visit is the first ever by an Irish President and is aimed at highlighting the strong bilateral relationship between Ireland and Colombia, as well as Ireland's engagement with the peace process in the country.
Ireland has supported efforts to build peace and protect human rights in Colombia for a number of years, and this has intensified over the last 12 months since the Havana-based negotiations for a peace agreement between the Government and FARC entered their final phase.
The visit will also highlight a growing relationship in the commercial and education sectors.
