Date: Mon 13th Jan, 2020 | 20:56

President Michael D. Higgins has today stated that he is looking forward to welcoming H.E. President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos on a State Visit to Ireland, which will begin on Thursday, January 16th.

The State Visit by President Pavolopoulos follows on from President Higgins’ State Visit to Greece, in February 2018, and serves to highlight the political, economic and historical relations between Ireland and the Hellenic Republic and to further strengthen the ties of friendship between the two countries.

The State Visit will begin with a ceremonial welcome at Áras an Uachtaráin, on Thursday 16 January, followed by a bilateral meeting between the two Heads of State. In the evening, President and Sabina Higgins will host a State Dinner in honour of President Pavlopoulos and Ms. Vlassia Pavlopoulou.

The two Presidents last met when President Higgins, at the invitation of President Pavolopoulos, delivered the Aristotle Address on the theme of democratic and economic change, in Athens in October last year.

Both Presidents also participated in a meeting of the Arraiolos Group of Presidents which met in Athens in October 2019.
