President and Sabina Higgins to host a series of themed Garden Parties at Áras an Uachtaráin

The President and Sabina Higgins will once again this summer host a series of Garden Parties, to celebrate the work of people and organisations working to build a better Ireland for all.
The Garden Parties continue the tradition of past Presidents and this year the President and Sabina will welcome over 4,000 people from all over the island of Ireland to their residence in the Phoenix Park.
This year’s Garden Parties cover a range of themes that are central to the work of President Higgins, including North South cooperation, sustainability, active citizenship, art and creativity.

  • The first Garden Party, taking place on 10 June, will be a ‘Family Day’, where the President and Sabina open up Áras an Uachtaráin to families and children from all over Ireland in a celebration of love, solidarity, diversity and inter-dependence in families of all shapes and sizes.
  • The second Garden Party, on 13 June, pays tribute to grass-roots organisations working to promote peace and reconciliation, and North-South cooperation, on the island of Ireland.
  • The 16 June Garden Party is a celebration of Bloomsday, and of Ireland’s arts and culture.
  • On 22 June, the President and Sabina are hosting a Garden Party celebrating the young people of Ireland and paying tribute to the many people and organisations that support young people on a daily basis.
  • The 25 June Garden Party is a special event, marking the 80th anniversary of the inauguration of Ireland’s first President, Douglas Hyde, in 1938.
  • On 27 June, the President and Sabina host a Garden Party paying tribute to the suffragette movement, and to all those who have worked to promote women’s rights and equal participation in society.
  • The 29 June Garden Party is a celebration of Sustainable Communities all over Ireland, which President and Sabina are hosting to pay tribute to people and organisations working to promote thriving communities from a social, environmental and economic point of view.
  • The 2018 Garden Party season will be rounded off with a special Presidential Concert, on 1 July, for representatives of organisations for which the President is a Patron.
