CITATION ON THE OCCASION OF THE CONFERRAL ON THE PRESIDENTOF IRELAND, MICHAEL D. HIGGINS, OF PERU’S HIGHEST HONOUR
LIMA, 10th FEBRUARY 2017
In light of the proposal of the Foreign Minister;
Taking account of the ties of friendship and cooperation that exist between the Republic of Peru and Ireland;
Given that the Official Visit of the President of Ireland, His Excellency Michael D. Higgins, is the first such visit to Peru by an Irish Head of State, a development that supports the diversification and deepening of bilateral relations and cooperation between both States;
Emphasising the academic and political experiences of His Excellency Michael D. Higgins, in particular his interest in the defence and promotion of human rights, peace, democracy and inclusiveness citizenship, as well as culture;
In keeping with article 118.22 of the Constitution of the State; and
With the approval of the Council of the Order;
IT IS RESOLVED:
First article – To grant the Gran Collar of the Order ´The Sun of Peru´to His Excellency Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland
